Objective Design and Development Standards (ODDS)

These development standards provide multi-unit residential and mixed-used projects with a clear review and approval process.

Objective Design and Development Standards aim to reduce discretionary review to spur increased housing development. In a discretionary process, subjective factors are used to review a proposed development and/or use, such as Design Guidelines.

In Fall 2019, we coordinated with the other cities and towns in Marin to work with Opticos Design to develop an ODDS toolkit. This toolkit provides each jurisdiction options to customize standards for multi-unit residential and mixed-unit development in their respective communities. These standards don't require interpretation, allowing a clear review and approval process.
