Research studies are important tools we use to inform new policies and regulations. Our most recent reports focus on sea level rise and climate change.
List of Available Research Studies
- Tomales Bay Bulkhead Vulnerability (August 2022) Bulkheads are human-made structures that alter natural coastlines to protect development. This study looks at sea level rise risks to existing bulkheads along Tomales Bay's eastern shoreline. (View PDF. 3.24 MB, 111 pages)
- Tomales Bay Living Shorelines Feasibility Study (January 2022) This study identifies and evaluates potential living shoreline projects in Tomales Bay.
- Safety Element Vulnerability Assessment (January 2022) This study looks at climate change risks to people, infrastructure, buildings, services, and resources in Marin County. This study supports climate change hazard analyses and policies in the Countywide Plan Safety Element.
- Stinson Beach Nature-based Adaptation Study (September 2021) This study looks at how nature-based solutions, like dune restoration, can protect Stinson Beach from sea level rise.
- Adaptation Land Use Planning (February 2020) This report provides information to local governments in Marin County on effective land use planning measures that address future sea level rise.
- Marin Ocean Coast Sea Level Rise Adaptation Report (Feburary 2018) This report evaluates possible adaptation strategies and costs to reduce sea level rise risk for Marin's coastal communities. It is a follow up to the Marin Ocean Coast Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Report (May 2016).
- Marin Shoreline Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment (June 2017) This study looks at the risks of sea level rise to assets on the bay shoreline, such as property, buildings, utilities, roads, and services. This study informs how we develop policies to protect our bay shoreline.
- Marin Coast Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment (May 2016) This study looks at the risks of sea level rise to assets on the ocean coast, such as property, buildings, utilities, roads, and services. This study informs how we develop policies to protect our ocean coast.
