What happens when I file a complaint?

Learn about what happens after you file a Code Compliance complaint.

When we receive a complaint, we first review the details. We research whether the alleged complaint merits opening up a case. We do this by looking up the property and permit history. If it does, we:

  • Open an enforcement case
  • Assign a case manager
  • Contact the complainant
  • Contact the property owner
  • Conduct an inspection to confirm whether there's a violation

If we determine a violation exists, we provide the property owner a notice of violation. This notice identifies the violation, corrective actions, and timeline for compliance.
